Caracas.- The President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Hugo Chávez, alerted during the debates of the Third Petrocaribe Summit about the problem of electric power deficit affecting almost all the nations of Latin-America and the Caribbean. The deficit represents a problem due to the vulnerability and the backwardness affecting the full socioeconomic development of the region. He also assured Petrocaribe is a way to overcome all this.
Chávez expressed his concern with the vulnerability affecting our countries. He mentioned the energy problems affecting Haiti, Nicaragua, Argentina, among others. “These problems are inherited from previous governments and also come from the colonialist technological dependency.”
He emphasized the role of the Petrocaribe initiative “as a strategic development formula, so that in the next few years, none of our countries have to suffer from energy deficit. The sum of the energy potentials of all the countries part of the initiative is a significant comparative advantage.”
