Prime Minister of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines
“Petrocaribe expansion is historical”

“The historical ties among the Caribbean nations and Venezuela have been strengthened with the efforts made by the Bolivarian Government,” said the Prime Minister of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Ralph Gonsalves. He gave this statement under the framework of the Plenary Meeting of the Third Petrocaribe Summit in Caracas.

Gonsalves uttered that “the strategic relation of our nations is a strategic path which leads us to the deepening of the regional integration, as an answer to the liberalization of the market”. In this context Gonsalves situated Petrocaribe.

The Head of State emphasized the human and nationalist character of the Petrocaribe Agreement and Energy Security Treaty. He also said that “we shall find the political space to build humanized economic systems. In Saint Vincent and the Grenadines we want to build a post colonialist, modern and nationalist economy, with a fundamental principle: energy. Petrocaribe is a fundamental pillar to achieve this.”

Gonsalves explained that the power generating plants in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines have received diesel for the past 6 months. And in the future when the storage plants for 34,000 barrels are built, “we could even import larger quantities,” he confirmed.

He also highlighted the importance of the delivery through Petrocaribe of 10,000 liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders last December.

For Antigua and Barbuda this is true expression of what solidarity means, and represents historical actions of “sovereign states with dignity.”
